Germany Lift U-20 World Cup Again
Germany made it a record-equalling third U-20 World Cup Final victory in front of over 15,000 in Montreal, but the fact that keeper Meike Kamper was player of the match, shows that Nigeria had the upper hand.
The Africans failed to turn first-half dominance into goals, with tournament top scorer Asisat Oshoala missing perhaps the best chance. Having outpaced the defence and rounded the keeper, she only found the side-netting.
Maren Meinert's side were better after the break but Pauline Bremer managed to put a header wide of the goal from a Sara Dabritz free-kick and Lena Petermann was denied when keeper Sandra Chiichii dived at her feet and sustained a bruised jaw for her efforts.
Nigeria were left frustrated by the flag going up for offside when they had the ball in the net 5 minutes from time, and more so when Petermann hit the only goal from Bremer's cutback 8 minutes into extra-time.
