Adamawa’s bye-election: ‘Fintiri, the man to beat’ •Atiku hails APC’s modified primaries for Adamawa, others

PROFESSOR Jonathan Silas Zwingina has disclosed that the Adamawa State governor, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, an aspirant for the October 11 governorship election, is not an anointed candidate of the presidency, as being speculated in some quarters.

The former deputy senate leader, who is also the chairman of the 20-man Fintiri Campaign Organisation, told newsmen that the acting governor did not believe in being anointed by President Goodluck Jonathan or anyone, but by God, who enthroned and dethroned at will.

He said the 20-man campaign team was constituted to promote the ideals of Fintiri, because the efforts he had put in place to reposition Adamawa State within the span of six weeks of his leadership of the state.

“Our principal is the aspirant to beat in the next PDP primaries.

“His efforts in rehabilitating the deplorable infrastructures are testimonies of the performance of the acting governor,” he said.

According to the chairman, a number of members of other political parties had or were planning to defect to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, as a result of the performance of Fintiri, while a lot of non-politicians had identified with the cause of Fintiri becoming the next governor of the state.

He stated that various segments of the society had endorsed the candidature of Fintiri, which the senator described as an indication of a clarion call by the Adamawa people for Fintiri to rescue the state from total collapse and decay.

Professor Zwingina said members of the Fintiri Campaign Organisation were men and women of proven integrity, who had identified with the aspiration of their principal.

Meanwhile, ahead the forthcoming governorship bye-election in Adamawa State, a former vice president and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, at the weekend, hailed the modified direct primaries introduced by the party for the conduct of the forthcoming Adamawa State governorship bye-election, slated for October 11, as well as other primaries, including the presidential primaries coming up at a later period.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, by his media office, Atiku pointed out that the modified direct primaries was the best option under the circumstances and nearest to the best under ideal democratic setting.

He appealed to APC leaders to make Adamawa State a model for the conduct of free, fair and credible electoral process in the country.

He promised to lead the party leaders in the state to create a level-playing field for all aspirants, with such transparency that the election would set a standard for genuine democratic principles of fair play for all states to emulate.

Atiku assured that he would not interfere with the choice of a candidate the people of Adamawa State would be making during the bye-election, in order to ensure victory for the party.
