Nasarawa: Clash between Eggon Youths, Fulani Herdsmen Claims Several Lives
Scores of people were said to have been killed yesterday in a renewed clash between the Eggon youths and Fulani herdsmen in a community in Alingani area of Nasarawa State.
A source told NIGERIAN INTEREST that the clash occurred in the early hours of the morning following a dispute between the two groups.
The source said several persons were killed just as the state government made frantic effort at restoring peace in the area.
As at the time of filing this report, the state Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, had called an emergency security meeting to look into the crises.
The Fulanis and Eggons have had long a history of frequent clash in the Asakio area.
The area is notorious for the killing of several security men by the outlawed Ombaste cult group.
Another source said Eggon youths, in their hundreds, were said to have invaded the community on Sunday evening to revenge the killing of their people by Fulani herdsmen after they lunched an attacked on worshipers in a Mosque where about three persons were killed and scores injured on Saturday
But the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, Ismaila Numan, who confirmed the incident, said the police only recovered two dead bodies while three others persons who were injured and taken to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia for medical attention.
