Keshi bows to pressures, to coach Eagles against Congo, S’Africa

BY ABU IDRISU:

Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has bowed to pressure by the Federal Government to coach the team against Congo and South Africa in the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

Nigeria, which will host Congo in Calabar on September 6 and be guest of Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Pretoria on September 10, is without a coach after Keshi’s contract expired the day the team crashed out of the just Concluded 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Super Eagles lost the second round match 2-0 to France.

Talks with the coach on a possible renewal of his contract were stalled due partly to the leadership crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation and his alleged demand for N15 million monthly salary.

Keshi decided to step down last week.

But Keshi’s agent confirmed on Monday that the coach has agreed to coach the team in the two matches pending further contract renewal talks.

His manager, Emmanuel Ado, said Keshi has agreed to an appeal from Nigeria’s government to return to his post to avert “disaster” in these matches while contract talks continue.

“I want to announce that we have reached an agreement between Keshi and the Minister of Sports, Tammy Danagogo,” said Ado.

“The agreement is all about Nigeria. And as a patriotic Nigerian, Keshi has no choice than to heed the appeal of Mr. President.

“Talks will resume after the two matches, but my client has agreed to take charge of the games, so as to avert any form of disaster,” he added.
