Ogun communities get small scale business items
To combat poverty in rural communities across Ogun State, the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun through her non-governmental organisation, Uplift Development Foundation, has commenced the distribution of small scale business items to various communities in the state under the initiative Community Empowerment Programme.
Speaking at the programme in Imeko in Imeko/Afon Local Government area of Ogun State, Mrs. Amosun said the initiative was specially designed to complement the numerous existing empowerment opportunities provided under the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration.
According to her, “The objective is to provide small scale business items to the less privileged and make them self-employed and self-sufficient.”
She said the programme was embarked upon to “support the Mission to Rebuild Ogun State, by attempting to improve the quality of life of the citizenry through capacity building.”
She explained that a NEEDS assessment was carried out before embarking on the programme, and that various leaders of communities and associations in Imeko/Afon Local Government area were consulted to ensure that the needs of these communities were met.
Various empowerment items like Melon Grinding Machines; Pepper Grinding Machines; Fumigating Machines; Sewing Machines; Hair Dryers; Barbing Kits with generators; Cassava Processing Drums; Coal Pots; Commercial Coolers; Business Parasoles, among others were distributed to over 500 people.
Beneficiaries of the programme included farmers, traders, artisans, Elubo traders, locust beans traders, iyalojas and others.
