2015: Sultan, Onaiyekan hold conference on credible elections today

In their effort towards ensuring credible and peaceful elections come 2015,  Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III and Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan will lead a comprehensive discourse towards responsible politics in the country today, August 11, in Abuja.

According to a statement, signed by the Sultan yesterday and made available to newsmen in Kaduna, the event  is aimed at ensuring credible and peaceful electioneering process in 2015.

The conference theme is: “Interfaith Understanding and Cooperation for Responsible Politics”.

“The conversation that it will generate is considered apt for setting the mood of the nation, as we step into the threshold of another electioneering campaign.

The deliberation will hold under the auspices of Interfaith Initiative for Peace, under the leadership of the Sultan and Cardinal Onaiyekan.

“His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan and I, as well as other members of the Interfaith Initiative for Peace, will be happy leading the conversation towards a better Nigeria,” the statement said.

The statement further explained that participants of the conference, which will end tomorrow (Tuesday), are drawn from religion groups, academia, civil society, media and other critical stakeholders.

Also, a  communiqué is expected at the end of the conference and  a workable resolution will be adopted towards peaceful electioneering period ahead of the 2015 general elections.
