Sanusi Urges Leaders On Sacrifice, Honesty

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor and Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, Thursday called on Nigeria’s political leaders to put the interest of the people above selfish ones.

Emir Sanusi said this during a congratulatory visit to the Kano State governor and Senator–elect for Kano Central zone, Gov Rabi’u Kwankwaso at the Government House in Kano.

Sanusi said that leaders are elected to serve the people, to protect their interest and to promote their welfare as he maintained that “under ideal circumstances, political leaders should be servants of the people who brought them to power through the ballot box”.

While appealling to Governor Kwankwaso as a Senator-elect as well as other legislators-elect from the state to ensure that they do legislative presentations that will be in the best interest of Nigerians, especially Kano citizens.

Sanusi said “While people have the right to vote for candidates of their choice, the elected leaders should justify the mandate by being honest and committed to the socio-economic changes promised to Nigerians”.

He also counseled the state deputy governor and governor-elect, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje to  continue the policies and programmes of the Kwankwasiyya administration adding that voting for APC candidates in the state is an indication that electorate are satisfied with the leadership style of the present administration.

Governor Kwankwaso, in his reaction, urged Nigerians, irrespective of their differences, to regard the APC victory in the recent polls as a victory for all.

He noted that many Nigerian citizens and friends of the country abroad had expected the general elections to be chaotic and lead to eventual breakup of the country.

He explained that Nigerians have indeed polished their collective image by conducting peaceful elections.

The governor also said: “The APC government would do everything possible to make life better for all. As such, what Nigerian needs at this critical period of change is sacrifice so as to win the war against insurgency and corruption which are clogging the country’s wheel of progress.

Thanking the Emir for the visit, Kwakwanso appealed to the Kano emirate council to continue enlightening citizens on the importance for education, pointing out that it is only when people are educated that they can become relevant in the scheme of things nationally and internationally.
