Nigerian defender, Echiejile impresses in Monaco win over Arsenal

BY ABU IDRISU:

Nigerian defender, Elderson Echiejile continues to make a case to become the first choice left-back at French club, AS Monaco.

Echiejile started for the Ligue 1 runners-up in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Arsenal in the Emirates Cup.

The 26-year-old did not do much wrong in the first half and showed the attacking part of his game when he let fly from distance in the 46th minute only to see his effort go wide of Wojciech Szczesny’s goal.

Echiejile played all 90 minutes despite the club’s regular first choice left back, Layvin Kurzawa coming on in the 83rd minute as a substitute for midfielder, Geoffrey Kondogbia.

The former SC Braga defender made just five league appearances for Monaco in the 2013/14 season and will be looking to have a better campaign this time round.
