Onolememen pledges reconstruction of Bauchi-Borno Road

BY ABU IDRISU

Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, has assured the Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, that Bauchi-Borno, Azare-Jigawa State Road would soon be reconstructed to enable travellers along the axis travel with ease.

The minister said this in Abuja when the Bauchi governor paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Onolememen explained that he has received approval for four outstanding bridges, which would hasten the completion of the road, while noting that the design for the road is received.

“We are working hard to mobilise contractors to the site by December, and within 70 days, I will dispatch my team to do that road and especially the Bauchi southern by-pass”, saying they have finalised the design of the by-pass.

Earlier, Yuguda commended the work that the Ministry has been doing across the country in line with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“I am very happy with the Ministry of Works under the leadership of Onolememen for responding quickly to the letter we wrote to the Ministry concerning the Bauchi southern by-pass.”

According to him, “in the past, it has been promises, today with the present minister, we are rest assured that work on that road will start in the shortest possible time.

“The city of Bauchi is growing since I resume office and we concerned about the security of lives of the people. The state has about two million externally displaced persons with substantial percentage in the town.

“We request for more action so that we can show our people that the Ministry of Works is doing something to improve our road in Bauchi State,” Yuguda noted.

The governor, however, pointed to the minister the Gombe-Bauchi Road that was constructed in 1973, saying it needed attention, and that the state is counting on the minister to send contractor to do a good job on the road.
