Former Governor Daniel Returns to PDP

Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, yesterday apologised to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, for any perceived wrong done to him by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, stating that it would be unfair for him to abandon the house he had built.
Also, the PDP assured all those willing to return to the party of waivers, whenever they apply for such.
By this, they are entitled to contest the primary elections leading to the general election in 2015.
Daniel spoke when he led other dignitaries of the Labour Party (LP) who defected to the PDP.
The former governor was at the PDP secreatriat in Abuja with the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko and other members of the LP.
Daniel lamented that the PDP has become so large that controlling membership has become a problem.
He said: “We have learnt our lesson. President Goodluck Jonathan is a major issue and he has performed and this Goodluck of our time must be supported. The only suggestion that I presented to the senate president is that this is a large political family. We demand a level-playing field.
“What we are talking about is automatic waiver and this issue of automatic waiver has been guaranteed,”he said; stating that:” I Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State for eight years is now back to the PDP.”
In his comments, the Senate President, Senator David Mark, who doubles as the chairman of the PDP South-west Integration Committee said that a new wind is sweeping all the six states of the zone back to the PDP.
The senate president said all the former members who are returning back to the party were on self-exile, describing the PDP as the true democratic party that is not under the directives of a single national leader.
He guaranteed all returning members of a level-playing field, but said: “When the level-playing field don’t favour you, please don’t go away. Don’t go away, remain within and fight to get the level-playing field.
There must be proper integration. Not one group is swallowing another. The integration must be genuine. If we are united, we win, but divided, we lose.
“Ogun State gave us a former president and therefore there should not be any reason why the whole of Ogun State should not entirely be PDP.”
He stated that the apology by Daniel to President Obasanjo was in order, adding that: “If baba is annoyed, we offer our apology. This is in line with the Yoruba tradition because it is proper for the young ones to offer apologies to the elderly.”
With this, he said victory in Ogun State for the party was guaranteed.
He commended the Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, for holding forth when the National Chairman of PDP, Adamu Mu’azu, was away.
Responding, the National Chairman of PDP, Adamu Muazu, congratulated the senate president and members of the integration committee for making the comeback of Daniel and his supporters returning back to the PDP a reality.
“I am happy that you have apologised to baba (Obasanjo) and I am happy that you offered this apology going down the history of how the former president ensured the emergence of Daniel as the governor of the state,” said.
He described Daniel’s sojourn in the LP as a supervisor of a warehouse that soon emptied its contents into the PDP.
Mu’azu said whosoever wants a waiver must apply and it would be granted, stating: “Please apply for waiver and it shall be given,” assuring the new returnees that they are now full members of the PDP.
The PDP national chairman also joined Daniel and the senate president in apologising to Obasanjo to forgive any wrong done to him by the party.
