Ebonyi South Stakeholders Adopt Chukwu as Consensus Candidate
Stakeholders of the Ebonyi South Consultative Forum (ESCF) have adopted the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, as the consensus candidate in the 2015 governorship election in the state.
The adoption came barely 24 hours after the old Abakaliki political bloc unanimously endorsed the minister to succeed the incumbent governor, Chief Martin Elechi.
Meanwhile, two aspirants have discontinued their ambitions to enable them support the consensus candidate, which according to them was for the overall interest and peace of the state.
The two aspirants who stepped down are, a one-time Commissioner for Commerce and Industry under the Dr. Sam Egwu’s administration, Chief Ben Akpa, and the son of the state Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, Mr. Sam Agom Eze.
The duo tendered their resignation letters separately to the governor after meeting with him in the governor’s office on Tuesday and further pledged to support the anointed candidate for the interest of the party.
The ESCF in a communiqué issued after their meeting at Afikpo on Tuesday, which was signed by stakeholders of the five local government areas in the zone, aligned themselves with all efforts to strengthen the unity, solidarity and oneness of the people as envisioned by their founding fathers.
The group thanked the people of Ebonyi north and central zones for their solidarity and good faith in adopting Chukwu as the consensus candidate.
According to them, “in pursuit of the goal of furthering the bonds of brotherhood and accommodation in Ebonyi State, we subscribe to the noble idea of power rotation among the three zones of the state.”
“We urge all our brothers and sisters in Ebonyi south zone to close ranks and support the candidacy of Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu to win the election and take Ebonyi State to the next level.”
