Ladoja, Oyo PDP commiserate with victims
A former governor of Oyo State and National Leader of Accord Party (AP), Rashidi Ladoja and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have commiserated with the survivors and families victims of Saturday fire inferno at Molete, Ibadan.
Ladoja, in a statement signed by a member of the AP media team, Toyese Oladejo, described it as most unfortunate and one too many and regretted the untimely death of the victims who were only carrying out their legitimate businesses.
According to him, though it was reported that the incident was due to break failure, he challenged the state government for not providing necessary infrastructures to nip such problem in the bud.
The AP leader averred that the state government should have provided functional ambulances and fire fighting vehicles in all notable roundabouts in the state, lamenting that the APC-led Oyo State government “has always been paying lip-service to provision of social amenities and I assert that the incoming Accord government in the state will redress the anomalies”.
Ladoja called on the state government to provide succour for the victims, while praying for the repose of the soul of people who lost their lives in the inferno.
Oyo State PDP in its reaction condoled with the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi and the family members of those who lost their lives and properties in the fire tragedy in a release signed by the party chairman, Yinka Taiwo.
The PDP described the incident as saddening and depressing, calling on government to take adequate measures in addressing the losses of people in the incident, even as it called for a better and faster approach to fire and other emergency situations.
“Cases of fire incidents are becoming rampant, so our people must exercise more caution in handling highly-inflammable materials and electricity. At the same time, government needs to be proactive in its approach to fire-fighting by improving the state’s fire service and its response to emergencies.
“It is heart-rending that the fire, which could have been put out if the Fire State Station along the Molete-Challenge axis had been well-equipped and ready for emergency situations, raged for several hours, but this is no time for blame game.
“Therefore, we sympathize with Governor Abiola Ajimobi and call on him to improve the state’s fire service in order to prevent future occurrences of avoidable incidents as this”, the PDP stated.
