ASENAL'S DANNY WELLBECK UNHAPPY

BY ABU IDRISU

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has expressed his unhappiness at the fact that he couldn’t help the Gunners to secure the 3 maximum points against bitter North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs. Welbeck led the Arsenal attack against Tottenham Hotspurs in the English Premier League match  over the weekend and the 1-1 stalemate wasn’t very satisfactory not only to the Englishman but to all the fans of the North London club, Arsenal. It was even more depressing that arsenal had to come from a behind to secure the draw at the Emirates. Welbeck, on his part insisted that the intensity of an EPL derby isn’t new to him but the inability of the Gunners to get the better of Spurs is disappointing. He said: ‘‘I have played in quite a few (Manchester) derbies and I played for Sunderland against Newcastle as well, so it nothing new to me. I know what it means to the fans and the whole club. I really wanted to get three points so I’m a bit unhappy. We tried to play out from the back and got caught in possession. Credit to them, they counter-attacked from there but it’s difficult to take because we were in control of the game. It could have gone better.’’

Danny Welbeck appears to be echoing the minds of the average Arsenal fan that anticipated a victory over Spurs. Arsenal now go 4th from 6 matches and the slow pace of the Gunners is a thing of great worry to the Arsenal fans all over the world. With games against Galatasaray and Chelsea coming up, a win over Tottenham Hotspurs would have boosted the players’ confidence and the supporters of the North London club. Now the players including Danny Welbeck must really live up to the expectation of the fans as the slow start to this season would only aggrieve the fans more if Arsenal loses to any of Galatasaray or Chelsea. Welbeck, who joined Arsenal this summer in a £16m deal, has got just a goal for Arsenal and the expectation of him is very high.

In Welbeck is a proven English Premier League attacker who Alex Ferguson had given enough playing time to establish him as even an England centre forward at 23 years. He made the English team that failed to qualify for the second round of the FIFA 2014 World Cup, but recently scored two goals against Switzerland to brighten the chance of England in the Euro 2016 qualifier. His experience should count for something at the Emirates despite his age as he has served tutelage under not only Alex Ferguson but also Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Arsenal is expected to mount an even better challenge on the English Premier League title than the almost traditional 4th place finish this term and this season, the team has a better attack line with Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Joel Campbell, Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo. Who would emerge the number one attacker at Arsenal this season is a poised for a fierce competition between Danny Welbeck and the other attackers.
