JNI Condemns Attack, Calls for Prayers
BY ABU IDRISU:
In the same vein, the umbrella body of northern Muslims, the Jama'atu Nasril (JNI) has asked Muslims to use the remaining days of the Ramadan fasting to pray against the evil that is being perpetrated against Muslims.
The Islamic body, in a statement condemning the twin bomb blasts yesterday in Kaduna, called on the authorities to show concern about the security of the people.
The statement, which was signed by its Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, said the news of the two explosions which claimed many lives is devastating.
“We are dazed over the news of the twin blasts in Kaduna city, which claimed the lives of many innocent Muslims in a Tafseer closing session of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, held at Murtala Muhammad Square, Kaduna and within a short while another blast was said to have rocked Kawo in Kaduna, Kaduna State.
“We therefore, condemn in the strongest term these repeated acts of terror being unleashed on Muslims, in this blessed month of Ramadan.
“All hands must be on deck to stop these perpetual massacres of lives and properties, as Nigeria is becoming a theatre of loss of blood for no just cause, which must be stopped,” it said.
SSS Denies Being Overwhelmed by Incessant Bombings
The Kaduna bomb blasts yesterday, again has re-awakened the debate on whether or not the insurgents are over-running the Nigerian military and its security apparatchik, given the frequency and successful execution of the insurgents’ terror attacks.
But the Spokesperson of the Department of State Security (DSS), Ms. Marilyn Ogar, yesterday said security forces were not overwhelmed, even with the spate of incessant bombings in the country.
She assured Nigerians that no part of the country would be conceded to a terrorist group.
Ogar, while reacting to the Kaduna explosions at the National Information Centre (NIC) in Abuja, insisted that security forces would not disclose its operation procedures, but added that efforts were on top gear to end terrorism in the country.
“It is a pity that we might not tell you our operational procedures and that is where there seem to be a disbelief when we say we are not overwhelmed,” she said.
Ogar also said the service could not confirm that the Kaduna bomb blasts, which occurred along Alkali Road in Kaduna, was targeted at the Islamic cleric, Dahiru Bauchi, as reported in the media.
While responding to questions from journalists at the NIC, Ogar said although the popular cleric holds prayers at the location annually, it was not certain if the bomb was targeted at him.
FG: We Have Capacity to Win War against Terror
But despite the waning confidence of many Nigerians at containing the menace of the insurgents, the federal government has declared that it has the will, the resources and the strategies to win the war against Boko Haram.
This was the declaration of the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ms Olajumoke Akinjide, who delivered a message on behalf of the federal government to the women and youths who had staged a three-day protest against Boko Haram and terrorism at the Unity Fountain, Abuja to mark the 100 days of the abduction of over 200 girls from Government Secondary School (GSS), Chibok, Borno State.
According to Akinjide, the federal government has procured new equipment and technology towards strengthening the capability and support for the Nigerian military and security forces, adding that the military equipment recently delivered included highly sophisticated fighter helicopters with in-built night vision technology.
She said the federal government has a clear edge in weapons and reconnaissance capabilities.
The minister listed the major breakthroughs recorded by the Nigerian military in the war against terrorism to include the capturing of many senior Boko Haram commanders who were used as spies and treasury officials by the Nigerian military and security operatives.
She also listed the achievements to include the arrest of Sadiq Aminu Ogwuche, one of the masterminds of the April 14, 2014 bombing of Nyanya motor park.
