Beware of fake NAFDAC officials —Orhii

BY ABU IDRISU:

The Director-General, National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, Dr. Paul Orhii, has called on owners of medicine stores to be aware of persons parading themselves as officials of the agency.
Orhii gave this warning at a press briefing in Lagos on Monday where some suspects were paraded for impersonating NAFDAC officials.
The NAFDAC boss said the suspects were apprehended for allegedly forging letters of operation and recognition for some medicine store owners in Sagamu, Ogun State.
“There are many people with dubious character parading themselves as NAFDAC officials and the unsuspecting public can be easy victims of these fraudsters. Please be vigilant.
The agency officials in collaboration with the police arrested Mr. Olawale Shittu, for advertising unregistered herbal products which carried claims that had not been verified safe by NAFDAC.
The suspect was arrested in Lagos while presenting a forged NAFDAC registration certificate to a client.
Orhii stated,“ The public should not be deceived by such unscrupulous businessmen capitalising on old habit only to market spurious products with misleading claims which can harm human health.”
