AL-HABIBIYYAH FEEDS MULTITUDES DURING IFTAR
The Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria has said that the number of persons it feeds in its Special Ramadan Food Bank programmes have risen from 700 to 1500 with an average of N600,000 being spent daily on feeding indigent Muslims to break their fasts.
The Director and Chief Imam of the society, Ustaz Fuad Adeyemi said this on Saturday during iftar (breaking of fast) in the society’s mosque in Guzape, Abuja.
He said they were not particular about the number of people being fed or the quantity of food being served but the quality and organisation of the food and entire programme, such that no one will leave the mosque and still be looking for what to eat again.
While commending the committee in charge of the special programme and other members of the society for their resilience and financial contributions to the programme, he also commended Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, who was a former chairman of the Ramadan Food Bank Committee, the current chairman and his secretary, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu AbdulRasaq, Alhaji AbdulRasak Kutepa and others for contributing to the success of the programme.
Incumbent chairman of the committee, Alhaji Faruk Suleiman, said the growing number of Muslims being fed in the programme is not a problem, he however said the committee and the society will appreciate assistance from Nigerians to sustain the quality and organisation of the programme and the foods being served.
He said three cows are killed and consumed in two days and that there was a day the committee spent N350,000 on chickens.
While also commending members of the committee for their efforts, he said some of them have devoted their annual leave to the cause of the feeding programme.
He also urged Nigerians to donate monies and clothing materials to the society for distribution to those who after the fasting will want to travel to their home towns and should be clothed to make the festival worthwhile.
He said clothes will also be distributed to the indigents to enable them celebrate the occasion with happiness, adding that a committee, made up of people with utmost desire to help others, has been put in place to ensure the continuity of the programme.
Imam Adeyemi called on those in position of authority to be compassionate by identifying with conditions of the people they are leading for a better society.
Many Muslims, who spoke with City News at the Mosque, commended the group’s humanitarian gesture and urged other Muslim groups to emulate them.
