Wogu under pressure to contest Abia governorship race

Tense pressures have mounted on the Federal minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka  Wogu to join in the Abia State governorship race under the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

The pressure is coming on the heels of notable power shakers that have so far declared their interest, especially those coming out side fom the Abia south zone.

The recent call came from  three  youth organizations of his Ngwa Kinsmen namely Abiazurumee Grassroots Development Initiative  ( led by Mr Okey Nwachukwu) , Ngwa Ambassadors Association ( by Mr Major Ehiogu ) and  Aba Ngwa Political Consultative Forum  ( by Mr Chima Mbama)had  trooped to his residence at Aba  announcing their endorsement of the PDP endorsement of  President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole  presidential candidate for the 2015 election.

The Youth organizations had used the handing over ceremony of cheques to beneficiaries of the Labour Minster’s scholarship scheme urging him to declare his interest in the governorship of the State.

The  trio  who also commended governor Theodore Orji  for supporting the PDP for zoning  the governor slot to the south zone which  is the zone  Minister Wogu hails from ,  joined to urge Orji to contest to represent  Abia Central in the senate in 2015.

They later handed over to the Minister their separate written resolutions in which they stated their missions pointing out to Minister Wogu that hence, he hailed from Abia South zone and is well qualified for the post of governor, he should without delay declare and join to contest the election in 2015.

“We commend you for the exemplary way you have been piloting the affairs of the Labour and Productivity Ministry. We call on you to run for the Abia State gubernatorial race come 2015. This is in view of the fact that you are well qualified and that so far,  there is  yet no aspirant of  our Aba North or Abia South LGA  origin in the race. You are the most easily sellable candidate”.

The Minister who  commended them for supporting president Jonathan’s love and positive disposition to the South East which the minister said the president has demonstrated  by giving  the zone key appointments and executing  essential projects in the zone, stressed that the re election of president Jonathan would ensure the continuity of these  appointments and projects which  he listed as  Enugu International  airport,  Onitsha seaports development, second Niger Bridge, expressways, among others.

On the call on him to join the governorship race he recalled that he has been in politics since 1989 during which he has held elected and appointed public offices noting that Governor Orji has continued to give him support.

He said, “I accept your clarion call to serve Abia State and I owe you an answer at the appropriate time which will be soon.  I am qualified to serve in the position you called me to. I am still in service and will continue to obey and abide by the PDP rules and directive.
