South East leaders commend Gov Orji

BY ABU IDRISU

Dignitaries from the four South East states have visited Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, to urge him not to relent in his pursuit of the transformation of the zone, as he had done to his state.

The visit was coming some few days after the state hosted important personalities from all walks of life to a banquet in celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the creation of Abia State, an event that was kick-started with religious services in the church and mosque.

The personalities, including traditional rulers, led by Dr. Max Okorie and Alex Mgbemena, captains of industry and politicians, maintained that the transformation which Abia had witnessed in three years bore testimony to divine governance.

“What we have seen is enough evidence that Abia is now working. We don’t need any soothsayer to tell us anything. We have seen all the wonderful work that you have done within three years and we are very proud of you. You have made us very proud.

“We have discovered that you are not the loud talking type. You are always meticulous in everything you are doing. You have not engaged in falsehood as other politicians are doing. Instead, what you have done is what you speak about and that is what you show to the people.

“We want you to do the same thing for the South East zone now that you are the chairman. What you have done for Abia you can also do for the South East,” they stated.

Briefing news men shortly after the visit, Information and Strategy Commissioner, Eze Chikamnayo described as untrue the report credited to notable business mogul and politician, Chief Arthur Eze, on the state.

Chikamnayo, who insisted that that the visit of the personalities were at variance with the outright falsehood published in a national daily (not Daily Independent) said the frontline politician from Anambra State was merely canvassing for votes for President Jonathan.

Chief Eze said he drove from Enugu and was dismayed at the level of anguish that motorists have to pass through on the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway and urged that South East to vote for President Jonathan en masse so that he can transform it from next year.

The Information and Strategy Commissioner said the distortion of facts by the newspaper was symptomatic of the desire of its owner and former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, to destroy the very fabric of the state.

Chikamnayo said the political woes being suffered by him was not the making of the present government, hence the anger should be directed at his own failure to perform rather than the state and present government.
