NFF set General Assembly date
The Nigeria Football Federation will convene an extra-ordinary General Assembly on Saturday, September 20.
The federation, which has been plagued by a crisis of leadership during the past two months, hopes to establish some much needed stability before the end of the month, especially as the boardroom shenanigans have affected the national team adversely on the field of play too.
Nigeria has failed to record a win during its first Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches and find themselves facing the very real prospect of failing to qualify for the continental showpiece next year.
The Super Eagles are currently third in its group, having accumulated just one point in its opening two matches. Group leaders Congo has been particularly strong, while South Africa are showing signs that the team might become a serious force in African football once again.
The meeting, which will convene in Warri, will seek to usher in a new NFF Executive Committee and possibly create some much needed clarity on the future of national coach Stephen Keshi.
“At the Extra-Ordinary Congress, the General Assembly will elect persons into a fresh NFF Electoral Committee and a new NFF Electoral Appeals Committee,” read a statement released by the federation on Tuesday.
“The General Assembly will also, at the same event, decide on a date and venue for the Elective Congress, which we hope will take place before the end of the month,” continued the statement by NFF General Secretary Musa Amadu.
