Monarch condemns attacks on Jonathan over Chibok girls

A monarch in Bayelsa State, Decca Keredei, has condemned the incessant attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan over the Chibok girls’ abduction and general insecurity challenges facing the country.

Keredei, the paramount ruler of Amatu 1 Community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state, said it was appalling that people would play politics with issues of life and safety.

Keredei, who spoke in Yenagoa during an interview with newsmen on Thursday, urged the opposition parties and those opposed to the President not to play politics with the security challenges in the nation.

He enjoined the opposition to rally round the President in his task to address the security and development challenges confronting the nation.

He also reacted to Tam David West’s statements against Jonathan, warning that nobody was safe in the country as what was happening in the developed countries could also happen in underdeveloped countries like Nigeria.

He pointed out that when Osama Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda attacked the United States, every other country including the United Kingdom supported the U.S. to defeat the threat he and his group posed.

He condemned West’s statement, saying, “The issue that Jonathan will be arrested by South-South leaders is uncalled for because the president like every other Nigerian who so desired will seek to run for a second term in office”.

He cautioned Nigerians on their utterances against the president as political position was not meant to oppress the people but for the development of the citizenry.

He urged people who are frustrated not to tarnish the image of the president and country, saying Jonathan inherited numerous problems when he assumed office as president.

He advised West not to blame Jonathan as he was taking the rights step to address the security challenges, stressing it was necessary for the professor of virology to sit down and think.

Keredei opined that people of other regions were more supportive of Jonathan than South-South people because of his achievements.
