Dickson explains engaging 1,100 youths as volunteers

BY ABU IDRISU

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has explained that his administration engaged 100 graduates and 1000 non-graduates into the Bayelsa State Volunteers Scheme in order to reduce the high unemployment rate in the state.

He said another batch of 200 youths were employed by the state government as forest guards on the basis of equal representation from the eight local council areas of the state.

Dickson’s explanation was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, which was made available to nigerian interest news in Yenagoa.

He regretted the increasing rate of unemployment in the world and described it as a global phenomenon.

Dickson said the government would not relent in its efforts at creating jobs for the teeming youths of the state.

The governor said he had also authorized the employment of science teachers to fast track and enhance the teaching of science subjects in all public schools.

He lamented the nonchalant attitude of a majority of the youths, noting with dismay the near-absence of Bayelsa youths at most of the construction sites around the state.

“Nearly all the menial jobs that do not require special skills are done by outsiders.

“As the custodian of the resources of the state, I owe the people a duty to ensure that the resources are meticulously and justifiably spent in the overall interest of the people”, he said.
