Gate passes have been subsidized by Liyel Imoke to ensure lots of locals turn up to cheer the Super Eagles against the Red Devils on Saturday

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers State has approved subsidized ticket prices for Nigeria's 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Saturday.

The state's sports commissioner, Patrick Ugbe in a chat with Goal in Calabar, said the cost of the tickets have been reduced compared to that of previous international games hosted by the state.

He said the ticket prices for the popular side, cover stand and state box will go for N500, N3, 000 and N5, 000 respectively as against the N1, 000, N4, 000 and N5, 000 they were sold for in previous international matches.

Ugbe also said that the tickets for the game will be available for purchase from Thursday at designated sales points in the city.

He explained the decision of the governor was to ensure more fans gained access to cheer the Super Eagles as they begin the defense of the title they won in 2013.

"The action of governor in requesting us to subsidize the prices of the tickets was because the Congo game will be the first match for the Super Eagles this year.

"So also he wants more fans to turn out in their numbers to support the Super Eagles on Saturday at the stadium," Ugbe said.

"On logistics and other support - we've done our own part and made necessary provisions expected of us in ensuring we have a successful outing on Saturday. As far as I'm concerned, I think everything is in place and Cross River state is ready to host the best game as usual," he concluded.
