Police arrest 37 armed robbers, recover 39 vehicles in Kano
The Nigeria Police, Kano State Command, in its effort to combat crime in the state, has made a breakthrough with the arrest of 37 armed robbery suspects and recovery of 39 motor vehicles in two months (August and September, 2014).
Other items recovered include, 2 AK47 rifles with 24 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunitions and 2 magazines, One English Pistol with 7 rounds of 0.9 mm live ammunitions, 8 locally made pistols with 17 cartridges, one pump action gun, one Dane gun and monetary exhibit in the sum of N236, 000.
This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Aderenle Shinaba, at a press conference, at the Police Headquarters, in Kano, yesterday.
According to the CP, 22 of the 37 arrested armed robbery suspects have already been charged to court for prosecution, while the remaining 15 are being investigated.
“39 motor vehicles that were stolen at gun point were recovered. 2 AK47 rifles with 24 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunitions and 2 magazines, One English Pistol with 7 rounds of 0.9mm live ammunitions, 8 locally made pistols with 17 cartridges, one pump action gun, one Dane gun and monetary exhibit in the sum of N236, 000. Were all recovered from the bandits.” He said.
Speaking, one of the suspected armed robbers, Yakubu Tingai, said, he was involved in trading the stolen cars and plates numbers but doesn’t rob cars, adding that his arrest was the second.
Meanwhile, owner of one of the recovered cars, Ibrahim Gidado Mukhtar, thanked the Police command for their concerted effort to recover his snatched car.
