BY ABU IDRISU

Acting Inspector General (IG) of Police, Suleiman Abba, has deployed the newly promoted Commissioners of Police to head police commands in 21 states.

This followed approval of the Police Service Commission to that effect.

With the new posting, Kayode Aderanti is now to take charge of the Lagos State Police Command, Dan Bature is to assume duty in Rivers, while Isaac Achong is to take charge at Akwa-Ibom State Police Command.

The other postings include that of Usman Yakubu who would now head Nasarawa State Police Command; Paul Okafor moves to Kogi; Hyacinth Dagala moves to Benue; Farouk Umar moves to Jigawa; Salihu Garba moves to Kwara; and A. Shodipo moves to Oyo State.

The others are Abubakar Marafa who heads for Osun; Clement Adoda for Borno; Usman Baba heads for Delta; Karma Hassan heads for Anambra; Titilayo Busari heads for Cross River; Valentine Ntomchukwu heads for Bayelsa; Frederick Lakanu heads for Ekiti; and Ademola Omole for Taraba State.

Also affected by the deployment were Olusola Amore who was posted to Niger State, Adejoh Adaji to Adamawa State, Ishaku Barau to Kebbi State and Acting Police Commissioner Wilson Inalegwu to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, the IG has ordered a thorough investigation into the death of the Vice Chairman of Sun Newspapers, Dimgba Igwe, who was reported killed by a hit-and-run driver in Lagos on Saturday.

While recalling the many worthy contributions of the late journalist to nation building, Abba expressed deep regrets over the incident and condoled with his family.

He noted that Igwe died at a time when his “highly cerebral ideas and ingenuity are very much needed in the country”.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Monday in Abuja, said Abba assured that the police would leave no stone unturned in their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s death.
