Sheathe Your Sword, Embrace Peace For Dev’t, Journalists Tell Stakeholders
Journalists of Kogi State extraction practicing in Kaduna State, under the auspices of Kogi Journalists Forum (KJF) yesterday rose from their monthly meeting with a call on political stakeholders in the state to sheathe their swords and embrace peace for the social economic development of the state.
A statement issued by the group and signed by its chairman and secretary, Chief Olu Ajayi and Baba Negedu Martins, respectively, said after looking at the ongoing impasse in the state, they are not happy with the development.
They called on the state governor, Yahaya Bello, the members of the state House of Assembly and the political leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) to put their grievances aside in the interest of peace and unity as that is the only way to engender peace and development in the state.
“KJF believes that it is crisis of this nature in the past that has deprived a state like Kogi with a lot of potentials and abundant human and natural resources from taking its pride of place in the committee of progressive states in the country.
“We are worried that since the conduct of the last governorship election in the state, only acrimonious and controversial reports have continued to emanate from the state. It is time to put a stop to such and we are urging stakeholders that nothing is more paramount than delivering the dividends of democracy to the common citizens of the state that have been deprived of basic amenities over the years.
“We want to reiterate that power like life itself is transient and those holding it in trust for the people, should not only be aware of this but should be in constant haste to deliver the goods and write their names on the sand of times and in gold for generations yet unborn to see.
