Al-Makura Details Personal Physician To Serve Indigenes

Governor Umaru Tanko Al- Makura of Nasarawa State has asked his personal physician to return to his duty post at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, and render services to members of the public in need of medical attention.

Al- Makura who stated this in Lafia, said he made the move in view of the fact that there is acute shortage of medical doctors in the state and felt morally challenged to keep qualified medical personnel all to himself.

He said: “We have less than a hundred qualified doctors in the state, and I, as a person, cannot keep one doctor to myself when he can offer services to a lot of our people in dire need of it”.

The governor explained that the services of his physician would only be demanded whenever the need arises like every other Nigerian.

He further reiterated his commitment to revamping the primary health care sector having identified health challenges as one of the most disturbing the state is facing especially in the rural areas where most of the primary health care facilities lack qualified manpower to run them.

He said the recent recruitment of 1, 500 health personnel by his administration was aimed at cushioning the effect of the hardship faced by rural dwellers in accessing health services, assuring that it was the first step in a series of plans to reposition health care delivery in the state.
