We Will Not Allow Our People To Suffer On Our Roads – Gov Bello
Niger State Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Sani Bello has stated that as a responsive and responsible government, his administration will not allow people to suffer on the major roads in the state even if they are federal roads.
The governor stated this through a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace at the weekend when he paid unscheduled visit to the Minna-Suleja Federal Road’s maintenance work, awarded by the state government .
The statement added that in view of the conviction, Bello directed the contractor handling the maintenance intervention work of the state government on the road to complete the project before the rains set in even as he ordered prompt release of fund to contractors handling the projects in the state..
According to him, “As a responsible and responsive government, we cannot continue to see our people suffer on this road. A trip of an hour now takes almost two due to the bad state of the road. The better part of the road has become a death trap, hence the state government intervention in the repairs of the road.
“It is a federal highway, we are only putting up this palliative measure pending the dualization of the road by the federal government. Despite our lean resources, we had similar intervention on a federal highway in Tegina, Rafi local government area of the state and I recently directed the state Ministry of Works to carry out repairs on Katcha/Baro federal highway,” the governor posited.
While saying that he would continue to personally monitor the repairs being carried out on the road till it is completed, the governor said the government was committed to safety of motorists and travellers on the roads.
