God, not PDP‘ll decide my fate in 2015 – Fintiri

BY ABU IDRISU

Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umar Fintiri, is set to clash with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the choice of the party’s candidate for the 2015 general election.

Fintiri, who just won the PDP ticket to contest the bye-election in the state for the office of the governor, expressed his readiness to go against the zoning arrangement of the party come 2015 when another election is expected to be held for the office of the governor.

The PDP leadership has said categorically that the ticket of the party for the 2015 election will be given to a candidate from the Central Senatorial Zone even if Fintiri, who is from the North Senatorial zone wins the bye-election, which comes up on October 11.

National Secretary of PDP, Wale Oladipo, had twice in the last one week, disclosed the arrangement by the PDP to ensure that the zoning arrangement is strictly adhered to.

He emphasized that those who withdrew from the just concluded Adamawa PDP primaries did so on the strength of the agreement reached that no one from either North or South senatorial zone will seek the ticket of the party in 2015. Fintiri is from the North senatorial district.

Fielding questions on Wednesday in Abuja at the PDP secretariat, Fintiri tacitly objected to the arrangement by the party, saying his destiny in 2015 rests solely on God and not on any man’s arrangement.

Oladipo, last week, disclosed that all the 14 aspirants who attended the meeting, where eight aspirants stepped down before the last Adamawa party primaries, signed an undertaking that the decision to field a candidate from the Central Senatorial zone for 2015 is binding on all.

He also reiterated it on Tuesday while speaking with journalist at the party’s secretariat.

However, with Fintiri openly giving indication of his desire to breach the agreement, the party might soon be thrown into crisis.
