Workers’ Salary Remains My Top Priority – Gov Wada

Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada has said that in spite of the economic hardship being experienced by the country, payment of salary remained a priority for his administration.

He pointed out that since the inception of his administration; saying that he has never toyed with the welfare needs of workers as far as the resources accruing to the state could carry him.

The governor, who disclosed that the N2.7billion June allocation was inadequate to offset or meet the current N3.1 billion wage bill, however promised to rally round to meet the deficit.

He blamed the state’s financial situation on dwindling federal allocation, arising from falling revenue accruing to the country’s coffers.

Captain Idris Wada congratulated the new leadership of the NLC for what he called extra-ordinary display of commitment to the well-being of members.

He attributed the rising wage-bill partly, to the mass exodus of teachers into the core civil service, adding that the government was working round the clock to resume dialogue to iron out the lingering salary issues of primary school teachers in the state.

Speaking also, the Head of Service, Dr Moses Atakpa praised the governor for promoting dialogue, human and institutional development, noting that the foundation being laid by the present administration would stand the test of time.

In their separate submissions, the various labour leaders lauded the openness of the Captain Idris-led administration and assured him of their support at all times.
