Shake-up in Army, 5 new GOCs named, Generals moved
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai, has carried out a massive shake-up in the Army barely two weeks of his assumption of office.
As a result of the shake-up, five new General Officers Commanding (GOCs) have been appointed.
They are Major General A.O. Oyebade, formerly Deputy Commandant, National Defence College (NDC), now General Officer Commanding 1 Division; Major General L.C. Ilo, General Officer Commanding 2 Division; Major General H. Edet, General Officer Commanding 81 Division; Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, acting General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Major General H. Umoru, General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Jos.
Among senior officers that were posted are Major General M.T. Ibrahim, former Chief of Standard and Evaluation who becomes the new Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna (NDA); Brigadier General H.T. Harmman, new Army Provost Marshal; Major General S. yusuf, former GOC, 82 division, now becomes the Chief of Training and Operation, Defence Headquarters and former GOC, 3 Division, Major General F.O. Ali who becomes new Chief of Training and Operation (CTOP), Army Headquarters.
Others are Major General J. Ogunewe, former Defence Adviser, New York, who becomes new Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Army Headquarters; Major General A.A. Terfa becomes the new Deputy Commandant, National Defence College (NDC); Major General C.O. Udeh becomes new Commander, Special Task Force (STF) Jos; Major General M.A. Koleoso, formerly Director, Administration, DHQ becomes the new TRADOC Commander, Minna.
Also affected are Major General A.O. Okunlola who becomes new Commander, Operation Pulo Shield; while Major General E.J. Atewe, former Commander, Operation Pulo Shield, becomes the new Chief of Logistic, Defence Headquarters; former Director, Military Intelligence, Major General L.W. Wiwa, takes over as Deputy Commandant, Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Lagos; Major General C.A.T. Jemitola becomes the new Army Corps Commander, Signal and former Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army, Major General P.A.T. Akem, becomes the new Director of Administration, Defence Headquarters.
Included in the posting are also Major General I.I. Abbah, former Military Secretary (Army) who takes over from the new Chief of Army Staff as the Commander, Multi-national Joint Task force (MNJTF), Chad; former GOC, 2 Division Ibadan, Major General S.N. Muazu, takes over as Corps Commander, Infantry Centre, Jaji; former Army Headquarters Garrison Commander, Major General B.T. Ndiomu, is now the Director, Simulation Centre, Jaji and Commander, 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, is now Brigadier General A.O. Labanji.
Others are Brigadier General O. Ofoche, who becomes the new Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade, Owerri; while the former Commander, Brigadier General S.M. Bello, becomes the new Director, Operations, Army Headquarters; Brigadier General A.H. Sa-ad, former Defence Adviser, Mali, is now the new Director, Military Intelligence (DMI); Brigadier General A.M. Dikko is new Army Headquarters Garrison Commander, while Brigadier General Solomon Udounwa, former Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff becomes the new Defence Adviser, New York, and Colonel Rabe Abubakar is to take over from Major General Chris Olukolade as the new Director of Defence Information.
Also 12 Major Generals who are Senior to the Chief of Army Staff are to proceed to Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) for a one year programme preparatory to their retirement
