Aftermath Of Armed Robbers Raid, Egbe To Get Military Base Station
Following last Thursday’s raid on Egbe and Odo-Ere communities by armed robbers during which three persons were killed and millions of Naira stolen from two first generation banks, and incessant robbery cases along Egbe-Eruku-Omuaran Road, Kogi Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi has hinted on plans by the state government to establish a joint military/police base station at Egbe.
Egbe is a border town in Kogi State, sharing boundaries with Pategi and Eruku in Kwara State.
For years, motorists and travellers, mostly traders, have groaned in the throes of robbery attacks, rape and toture along Egbe-Osi-Omuaran-Ilorin road and Egbe-Okunran-Isanlu-Esa-Okoloke-Pategi road. Many lives have been lost in the hands of the robbers who capitalized on the deplorable condition of the roads from Egbe to Osi and Okoloke.
The idea of a military base, a working arrangement between Kwara and Kogi State Governments, and the 2nd Mechanized Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan (details withheld), is not unconnected with the latest attacks when an armed gang numbering about 25 in three vehicles sacked the two most important communities in Yagba West Council in an operation that lasted more than an hour, unchallenged.
