The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has resolved to fix uniform fares for all taxi operators in the territory. The scheme which will begin next year will ensure fares are fixed for the different routes in the territory.
Announcing this yesterday in Abuja, Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Engr. Jonathan Ivoke, said calibrated metres will be installed in the taxis.
According to him, the administration will come up with a “Kilometre Chart” which will look at issues of distance, profit, fuel consumption and car maintenance before the prices are fixed.
Ivoke also added that before the end of next year, the city’s rail system will be up and running.
Giving a breakdown of the activities of the secretariat since the beginning of the year, Ivoke said the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services DRTS internally generated over N2.2 billion for the FCT Administration.
He added that within the period under review, about 3,590 motorcycles, 865 tricycles and 1,050 vehicles were impounded.
Ivoke further stated that by next year, all traffic lights in the territory will be solar-powered to allow for an efficient traffic management system.
