Lobi’ll Not Die Like BCC Lions – Ortom

The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has pledged to the people of the state that the state-owned club, Lobi Stars Football Club, will not go the way of the once-famous but disbanded BCC Lions of  Gboko.

The former club, owned by the Benue Cement Company, had to be disbanded in the late ‘90s, due to lack of funds.

Ortom – who was represented by the chairman of the football club and the deputy governor, Engr Benson Abuonu – made the pledge during the unveiling of the club’s new logo, ‘Glory to Glory’, over the weekend, as well as four different rebranded jerseys, in Makurdi, the state capital.

The governor assured that the monthly allocation and salaries of the club’s players and officials, which amounted to N37m, would be sustained to boost performance and assured that his administration would continue to fund the club until it tops the league table and clinches a continental ticket.

Chairman of the occasion and former attorney-general of the federation, Mike Kaase Aondakaa (SAN), said the new Lobi Stars logo  which carries the symbol of the “Food  Basket of the Nation” indicates that Benue would continue to lead Nigeria in the area of food production.

The club’s vice-chairman, Mike Idoko, noted that the new logo was the emblem and mark of identification. Also, he promised that efforts would be intensified towards improving the club’s present position on the league table from fifth to the first.
