A task force team consisting of heavily armed security personnel pulled down shanty houses and makeshift shops and burnt same at a squatter settlement behind LEA Primary School, Utako.
The board’s public relations officer, Samuel Musa, said that the settlers did not heed the warning given them by the board to leave the location because they constituted environmental nuisance.
He said that the board had arrested some suspects for indiscriminate felling of trees in the Asokoro District.
Musa said that the suspects would be arraigned before a mobile court. He said that felling of trees in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), without permission and supervision of environmental officers, was an offence punishable by law.
“If you must cut a tree, then, you have to apply to the FCT Authority for official permission and approval,” he said.
He urged residents to cooperate with the board.
