Sokoto Varsity Matriculates 1002 Students

The Sokoto state university, over the week, matriculated 1002 students for the 2014/2015 academic session.
Addressing the matriculating students, the vice-chancellor, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub, admonished the students to be of good behavior, eschew acts of examination malpractice and other vices.
He disclosed that the university had received N 2.09 billion from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in the last seven months.

“The fund shall be used to provide, among other things, two large lecture theatres, the commencement of the building of the faculty of science and provision of internet facilities, among others.
“The provision of the internet connections will make the whole of the campus ICT-compliant,’’ Yaqub said, adding that the state government had extended SURE-P resources to the institution.
According to him, a computer-based examination centre would be set up in the institution.
While commended Gov. Aliyu Wamakko for his sustained support to the university. He warned the students against flouting its rules and regulations, adding that the institution would not compromise its set standards.
“We will never compromise our set standards of discipline and academic excellence, and any contravention by both the staff and students will be duly sanctioned,’’ he said.
Wamakko, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Higher Education, Prof. Gajam Ardo, promised improved funding the institution.
“You should, however, reciprocate the huge expenditures of the state government and your parents by being dedicated to your studies as well as shunning all vices,’’ Wamakko said.
