The military said that the fight against Boko Haram was progressing, claiming soldiers had recovered stocks of arms abandoned by insurgents fleeing the recaptured town of Baga.
The Defence Headquarters said troops engaged in cordon and search at Baga in Borno, where they uncovered arms of various backgrounds and shapes abandoned in some houses and surrounding by fleeing terrorists.
This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja, by Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information. “Heaps of weapons most of which were strange looking or destroyed are still being gathered. Many abandoned or destroyed motorcycles have also been discovered,” Olukolade said.
“A number of individuals who claimed to be residents are also being interrogated in order to ascertain their identity and motive. The group consisting mostly women continued to hail and cheer the troops as they conduct thorough search in the area.”
Olukolade said that in spite of their excitement, the residents were being placed under watch to be sure that they were not working for the terrorists.
“The cordon and search as well as patrol of the localities continue while the offensive on terrorists is progressing in other areas of the theatre of the counter terrorist campaign,” he added.
