Poly Student Bags 6 Months For Hemp Trafficking


A 30-year old polytechnic student, Mr. Nwokeoma Adimoha, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos, for illicit drug deals.
The accused, a resident of Satellite town area of Lagos who pleaded guilty, was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.
Following his plea, Justice Mohammed Idris sentenced him to six months imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest.

“Having pleaded guilty to the charge before this honourable court, the accused is hereby convicted as charged.
“He is accordingly sentenced to six months imprisonment, which term shall start running from the date of his arrest.
“The drug exhibits are to be returned to the office of the NDLEA for destruction,” he said
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr. Orji Kalu had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 10, 2014.

He said the accused was arrested by surveillance of the NDLEA, at an uncompleted building in Satellite town, Lagos.
He said that about 2.40 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa ali
(Indian hemp), was recovered from the accused who was reported to be a dealer in the drug.
The offence is said to contravene the provisions of sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.
