Awoniyi Hails Ganaja, Gadumo Communities

Ganaja and Gadumo Communities have been praised for their understanding and co-operation to provide land for the construction of two blocks of Hostels to serve as disaster evacuation centre.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, made the remarks while presenting cheques to compensate representatives of Ganaja and Gadumo communities who graciously gave out their land for the building of disaster evacuation centre by the Federal Government.

Awoniyi, said meaningful development can only be attained when government and citizens complement one another, urged other communities in the State to emulate the gesture by the leadership of Ganaja and Gadumo communities.



The Deputy Governor prayed for the State not to witness another flood like the one experienced in 2012, however said the measures taken to provide evacuation centres, and was a proactive measure by government to protect lives and properties of its citizens in the event of such occurrences.

Awoniyi, appealed for continues support from the community for the timely completion of the project, said aside the compensation, the project will provide gainful employment to artisans of the two communities.

Earlier in his remarks, Engr Stephen Maiyaki, Commissioner for Land and Housing, Kogi State said the community had graciously given to the Federal Government 1.2 hectares of land for the project commended them for their understanding to the request of the State Government.

In his remarks, Abdulmalik Mohammed who spoke on behalf of the communities, praised the government for bring development to their communities, assured of their support to the successful completion of the project.
