Why Enugu Rangers’ form plunged –Sports Commissioner
ENUGU state Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Mr. Charles Nduka has attributed current deep in-form of Rangers football club team to exodus of some key players after they won the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL last season.
Commissioner Ndukwe who spoke exclusively to Nigerian Pilot Sports in Abuja over the weekend however expressed confidence that the current crop of players who are still blending with each other will soon pick up and take their rightful place on the league summit He affirmed that his assertion was hinged on the fact that the squad that claimed last season’s NPFL title struggled to keep the club away from relegation two seasons ago but suddenly rejuvenated the following term.
According to him, “The truth about it is that when a team achieves certain degrees of success, it tends to enter their head, I think that also contributed to it but the most important problem the team is facing is that some key players that won the title had left the team. That same team that won the NPFL title was still those we brought together in 2015 yet they only managed to avoid relegation then. “However, I want to assure you, this particular month that the transfer period is on, we will register more players from the pool of players we have already in camp, we have about 44 players in camp, we only registered about 28 of them. “And so, I want to assure Rangers fans that the team will bounce back because the Governor himself is worried. There are a times when we come for state executive council meeting, his Excellency the governor will be repeatedly heating me with questions of what is happening.
Asked if head Coach Imama Amakapabo has been sacked or suspended, the Commissioner posited, “It has not come to my knowledge as at this moment that the coach is sacked or suspended.”
