Plateau: APC Wins Pankshin North, Pankshin South Constituencies By-elections
The All Progressives Congress( APC) candidate, Hon. Alice Dimlong has won the rerun elections into the Plateau State House of Assembly for Pankshin North constituency.
Also, Mr. Gideon Dashe of APC has won the rerun election for Pankshin South constituency.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the Court of Appeal in Jos had in its judgement on the April 11, 2015, House of Assembly election, ordered INEC to conduct fresh elections in Nyelleng polling unit of Fier ward in Pankshin North and Pyabor polling unit in Chip ward respectively to determine the winners.
The by-election at Nyelleng polling unit, which was held under tight security, was very orderly and peaceful devoid of any rancour.
Dimlong had pulled 17, 320 votes to beat her PDP opponent, Mr Diket Plang, who got 16, 817 votes.
The returning officer for Pankshin North constituency, Dr Jeff Godwin of the University of Jos, who announced the result at the council chamber, declared Dimlong as the winner of the by-election.
“ I, Dr Jeff Godwin, the returning officer, declare that Mrs Alice Dimlong of the APC, having scored the highest number of votes and having satisfied the electoral law, is hereby return elected, ’’ he declared.
Also Mr. Gideon Dashe of APC at the weekend won the Plateau State House of Assembly by-election for Pankshin South constituency.
Taraba Assembly Rerun Election: Ex-Speaker Defeats APC Candidate
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared, Mr. Abel Peter Diah, former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly winner of Mbanga constituency state House of Assembly supplementary election.
Mr. Abel Peter Diah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 7, 825 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Emmanuel Bongo who polled 5,642 at the Saturday’s supplementary election.
The returning officer for Mbamga state constituency, Dr. Binkoya Adamu announced the former speaker, Hon. Abel Peter Diah as winner at the INEC Collation Centre, yesterday in Mbamga town, the headquarters of Mbamga state constituency.
The Saturday’s state House of Assembly re-run election in Mbamga state constituency of Sardauna LGA of the state followed the recent Court of Appeal judgement sitting in Yola that nullified the earlier electoral victory of the former speaker, Hon. Abel Peter Diah and ordered for a fresh election to be conducted in eight polling units of the constituency respectively.
