NYSC tasks corps members on change
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director-General, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi has restated the need for Corps members to be in the vanguard for the actualization of the change agenda of the present administration.
He was addressing the 2015 Batch ‘B’ Corps members, who are currently undergoing their Orientation Course at the Orientation camp in Lagos State.
He urged them to help in sensitizing other Nigerians on value re-orientation.
The Director-General, who hailed Nigerian youths as some of the best in the world, cautioned them against making uncomplimentary remarks about the country. Speaking in the same vein at the Kwara State Orientation camp, the DG expressed optimism that Nigeria would be great again; while also urging the Corps members to remain patriotic at all times. He used the occasion of the visit to announce the procurement of an ambulance for the NYSC Kwara State Secretariat as part of efforts to enhance the Corps members’ welfare.
In Oyo State, the Director-General commended the state government for the standard of facilities put in place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin. Olawumi reaffirmed the commitment of the Scheme to the safety of Corps members, and urged them to play roles in their own security by, among other things, avoiding unnecessary journeys. He further encouraged them to integrate with their host communities as well as appreciate and respect their cultures and religions. The Director-General was also in Ekiti State Orientation camp, where he reminded Corps members that there was no shortcut to success; adding that they must imbibe the virtues of hard work, honesty and respect for their country.
At the Orientation camp in Ede, Osun State, the DG took his change advocacy to the Corps members, urging them to be proud of Nigeria and shun acts that could be inimical to its existence.
He also had an interactive session with members of staff of the Scheme during which he assured of the Management’s continued commitment to their welfare.
Addressing Corps members during a similar visit to the NYSC Camp, Ikare, Ondo State, Olawumi advised them to remain in their places of primary assignment after the Orientation course.
