Adefuye’s Body to Depart US Friday
The remains of the late Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Professor Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye, will on September 11 leave the US for Nigeria where it would he buried.
The corpse would be accompanied by the ambassador’s wife, Mrs. Catherine Adefuye, the couple’s children, Nigerian embassy officials and some officials from the US State Department.
A source at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC confirmed that a brief farewell service would be held at the Embassy’s Chancery before the departure of the body.
His burial, said the source, would hold in Lagos State on September 17.
A month before his death, the ambassador had been recalled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but had to stay on in the US to receive President Muhammadu Buhari and his delegation during the president’s three-day visit to Washington D.C. last July.
Following Buhari’s visit, the Nigerian Embassy in Washington was planning a send off for him, but he died suddenly from what was believed to have been a cardiac arrest.
