Fed. Poly, Ado-Ekiti commissions 200 hectares of Oil Palm farm
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Mrs. Taiwo Akande, before commissioning the
oil plantation singled out Architect Abimbola Adebayo, who is also a
lecturer at the institution for the lofty idea.
Akande, however explained that the whole idea behing the project was to
boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the institution and make it
financial self sustaining and be able to fund it’s internal projects.
Akande said with the dwindling revenue of the country, individuals and
institutions have come face to face with the stark reality to be pro-active
in the search for alternative means of livelihood.
She said “We, as management of federal polytechnic have decided that we are
not going to neglect agriculture. That is why we have decided to cultivate
Oil palm farm to boost the revenue of the institution and contribute to the
success of the project.
“To this end, I and the management staff will donate seedlings for the
farm, while the Polytechnic management will process the produce from the
farm when it is matured”.
The rector said for proper accountability, a separate account had already
been opened for the oil palm farm, where the money made from it would be
kept and would make it easy to monitor.
The commissioning was witnessed by all Heads of department, faculty and
senior lecturers of the polytechnic.
