Atiku, Oyegun, Dogara Drum Up Support For Izunaso’s Foundation


Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun have canvassed support for Kpakpandu Foundation for Persons with Disability.

Odigie-Oyegun, during the 11th anniversary celebration of Kpakpandu Foundation and the golden jubilee birthday celebration of its founder, Senator Osita Izunaso, urged Nigerians to support him.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, while calling for support for the foundation, assured that the Bill on special people’s needs would be passed in two weeks.

He commended Senator Izunaso for the touch of human kindness.

While reeling out the aims of the foundation, the Executive secretary, Prince Ezennia Denton Ogbuehi, said Kpakpandu Foundation was established on the 30th of October, 2006, as a non-governmental cater to foundation to cater for the special needs of people with special needs all over Nigeria.

He said since its establishment, the foundation has provided qualitative education, skills acquisition training, healthcare and advocacy programmes for persons with special needs.

With membership strength of approximately 3,700 beneficiaries, Kpakpando foundation has done a lot in providing care and support for its members.

On his part, Senator Izunaso said he doesn’t celebrate birthdays as such, but decided that he would reach out to persons with disability every year to mark his birthday.

On whether he is a fulfilled man, seeing the turnout of people that came to celebrate him, Senator Izunaso said, he was yet to be fulfilled because the Bill on persons with disability was still pending at the House of Representative.

However, the speaker, Yakubu Dogara allayed his fears, saying that, the bill on special people’s need will be passed in two weeks. He commended Senator Izunaso for the touch of human kindness.

The former Vice President, who was the toast of most attendees described Senator Izunaso as gift to humanity.

The quest speaker at the occasion, Catholic Arcbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukuh in his usual manner, held the audience bound throughout his lecture, which dwelled on the place of persons with disability in Nigeria.

Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of Toyota Corolla to a physically challenged, Mr. Jaja Okparaku, who recently returned from the United Kingdom, where he went to study for Masters Degree on Kpakpando scholarship.

Another physically challenged, Mal Jemilu Adamu from the FCT, was the lucky winner of a one bedroom bungalow, located in FCT. Hundreds of others physically challenged persons left the venue with one thing or the other to aid their mobility.
