Atiku, Tambuwal, others meet over consensus

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal and the Zamfara State governor, Abdulazeez Yari, behind closed doors.

The meeting which was held in Abuja was part of last ditch efforts towards building a consensus over the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

It was gathered that the meeting was earlier designed to be a meeting of the party’s presidential aspirants and party leaders from the north.

However, it was learnt that former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Sam Nda-Isaiah did not show up for the meeting.

A source privy to the meeting confided in our correspondent that Tuesday’s meeting was one of several scheduled to hold to reduce the acrimony which some fear could threaten the party’s chances in the 2015 elections.

The source said “There is nothing unusual about these kinds of meetings at this time.

“It is understandable that Kwankwaso could not attend because he just opened his campaign office earlier today, others could not attend for one reason or another but we will keep trying. You don’t expect to get instant results.”

A broader meeting of party leaders and aspirants is scheduled to hold in Abuja, on Thursday
